Poly(3-alkylthiophene)s exhibit thermo- and solvatochromism. Regiorandom poly(3-octylthiophene) shows relatively weak red PL in dilute solution. The emission is largely quenched in concentrated solutions and solid thin films.1:1 (head-to-head):(head-to-tail) linkages of regioisomers. Applications: P3OT forms a nanocomposite with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for devising a high performance semiconducting material. It can also be used as a p-conjugating polymer for the fabrication of organic electronic based devices which include polymeric diodes, solar cells and photovoltaic modules.
