ITW Permatex® Maximum Temperature Thread Sealant Methacrylate
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Methacrylate

Material Notes: Permatex® Maximum Temperature Thread Sealant with PTFE is formulated for fast, responsive curing on metal pipe threads and fittings. This sealant is a smooth, white paste-like compound that controls lubricity to assist assembly and torque tightening. Permatex? Maximum Temperature Thread Sealant replaces tapes or pipe dopes. It cures rapidly to withstand 10,000 PSI within 24 hours. Prevents galling and protects mated threaded surfaces from rust and corrosion. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. This product may not be compatible with some thermoplastic materials.

The rate of cure will depend on the material used. Permatex Maximum Temperature Thread Sealant will react faster and stronger with Active Metals. However, Inactive Metals will require the use of an activator (Surface Prep) to obtain maximum strength and cure speed at room temperature. The rate of cure will depend on the ambient temperature. Full cure is attainable in 24 hours at room temperature, 22°C (72°F), or 1 hour at 93°C (200°F). Where cure speed is unacceptably long, or large gaps are present, applying an activator (Surface Prep) to the surface will improve cure speed. The graph below shows the shear strength developed with time on 1/2” NPT fittings using Permatex Surface Prep Activator.
