BYK Laponite® D Magnesium Silicate
Categories: Ceramic; Clay

Material Notes: LAPONITE D is a synthetic layered magnesium silicate which has been surface modified with fluoride ions. LAPONITE D is insoluble in water but hydrates and swells to give clear and colorless colloidal dispersions in water or aqueous solutions of alcohols. At 2% concentration in water and 50% aqueous solutions of sorbitol or glycerol, highly thixotropic gels are obtained.

Application: Usually used in conjunction with other thickeners for imparting a shear sensitive structure to both conventional and specialty toothpastes. For formulation information refer to Laponite Technical Bulletin L202/01e.
