Evonik Isobutene Inflammable gas
Categories: Fluid

Material Notes: CAS No: 115-11-7

Under normal conditions Isobutene is a colorless inflammable gas with a typical olefin odor. It is easily liquifiable by cooling or under pressure. Isobutene is soluble in ether, alcohol and hydrocarbons, but nearly insoluble in water. It has no corrosive properties. In its chemical behavior it shows the typical reactions of olefins like hydrogenation, electrophilic addition, oxidation and polymerization. The product is extremely flammable.

Applications: Isobutene is a starting material for various intermediates and final products such as: Butyl rubber, polyisobutene, diisobutene, tert.-butanol, alkyl-tert.-butyl ether, vitamins, fragrances, isoprene, mercaptanes, alklphenols, antioxidants, synthetic resins, adhesive resins, tackifiers, methacroleine, methacrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, PMMA, additives for fuels and lubricants, dispergators, peroxidic polymerization initiators, cross-linking agents and curing agents, organic acids, alkylchlorides, methallylchloride, methallylsulfonate, isoamylalcohol, isobuteneoxide.
